Other Approvals

Other Approvals

In addition to an Aquatic Habitat Protection Permit (AHPP), many projects near water require other government approvals. These can be at the municipal, provincial or federal levels. It is the applicant’s responsibility to determine which approvals are required and to obtain them.  Some common approvals include:

Federal

Fisheries and Oceans Canada – for projects in fish-bearing waters

Canadian Wildlife Service – for projects in federal migratory bird sanctuaries

Provincial

Ministry of Environment – Special Collection Permit for fish salvage – contact fisheries.permits@gov.sk.ca

Ministry of Environment – Wildlife Habitat Protection Act (WHPA) approval for projects on WHPA land

Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport – Work Authorization for work within a provincial park or provincial recreation site – contact your park administration office

Municipal

Municipal bylaws and building/development permits – contact your local municipal office
