WSA Terminating Spillway Operation
Today, the Water Security Agency (WSA) is advising the public that the spillway operation from Gardiner Dam will be terminated on July 15, 2026.
Over the last two weeks, inflows to Lake Diefenbaker have significantly decreased, allowing operations at Gardner Dam to return to more normal conditions.
Outflows will be maintained between 270 cubic metres per second (m³/s) to 300 m³/s for the next few weeks. At the start of July, well above normal inflows from Alberta entered Lake Diefenbaker, necessitating the spillway operation.
The lake level will continue to rise from 556.28 metres (m) to 556.33.m.
While flows will be reduced, water levels downstream of the dam could remain higher than normal for several days as the water moves through the system. WSA is urging the public to be cautious around the South Saskatchewan River as a result.
