Ten Day Forecasts for the Saskatchewan River System

July 03, 2025

Please find below the July 3, 2025 update on Lake Diefenbaker conditions:

Over the past week, minimal precipitation has occurred across the basin and there is minimum precipitation in the forecast for the next week.

Headwater flows in the Bow, Red Deer, and Oldman Rivers continue to recede and are now near lower quartile. Inflows to Lake Diefenbaker are also declining after the peak last Friday of approximately 509 m³/s. Inflows are now near 300 m³/s, which is slightly below normal for this time of year. With no significant rainfall in the forecast, flows are expected to drop near lower quartile by late next week.

The reservoir is currently at 553.32 m, which is still below the lower quartile elevation for this time of year. Due to higher inflows from the recent heavy rainfall and low outflows, the lake continues to rise slowly but is expected to remain below the lower quartile throughout the summer. Current outflows from Lake Diefenbaker are approximately 65 m³/s. Given the inflow projections and current lake levels, daily average is expected to remain between 60–70 m³/s.
