WSA Issues High Flow Advisory for North Sask River System – Caution Urged Near Water
Today, the Water Security Agency (WSA) is issuing a high flow advisory for the North Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan River systems.
Significant rainfall in Alberta over the past week has increased flows across the river system. These above-normal flows are moving downstream and are expected to raise water levels along the North Saskatchewan River by nearly two metres at North Battleford on June 26, 2026 and Prince Albert by June 27, 2026.
Flows are expected to increase from roughly 450 cubic metres per second (m³/s) to 1,500 m³/s. The high-flow event will continue to progress downstream into the Saskatchewan River, resulting in a nearly two metre increase as well.
Residents on or near the river are advised to exercise caution due to rapidly changing water levels and increased flow velocities. This can create hazardous conditions and can be a serious public safety risk.
Flows may remain elevated for an extended period due to forecasted precipitation across the North Saskatchewan River basin, which could sustain or further increase river levels.
WSA will continue monitoring the conditions and will provide updates as needed.
