WSA Issues High Flow Advisory for Beaver River

In response to recent rains in Alberta, the Water Security Agency is advising residents around Beaver River of anticipated high flows in the coming days.

At the beginning of June, between 80 and 120mm of rain was recorded at the headwaters of Beaver River. Flows have doubled from about 120 m3/s (cubic meters per second) to 240 m3/s near the AB-SK border resulting in water levels rising about 1.5 meters.

Beaver River at Dorintosh near Meadow Lake Provincial Park, has recorded increased flows from 135 m3/s to 165 m3/s with water levels rising by approximately 0.5m.

As the water continues to move through the system, flow and water levels are expected to continue to rise in the coming days. Some out-of-channel flow and localized flooding of agricultural land is possible.

WSA advises taking precautions around bodies of water during high flows as shorelines can be unstable and water levels change with little notice.

WSA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they develop.
